Death Artist Studio Session: Max Leiva

For this Death Artist Studio Session, we gathered at the studio of Guatemalan sculptor Max Leiva to explore death through art, conversation, and ritual.

We baked special loaves of bread and paired them with butter sculptures crafted by Max himself, accompanied by live music from Santiago Cabrera (Arteriam) and wines selected by José Andrés Passarelli.

Discussions unfolded around questions such as: Should we photograph the dead? Should cameras belong at funerals?

Guests shared stories of loss and their own funeral wishes, creating a warm, inclusive space where grief and celebration could coexist — a moment of beauty, empathy, and shared mortality.
